Job Description

Role Overview

This position places you at the heart of a fast-moving FMCG production plant in Lamu, where reliable machinery is the backbone of daily output. You will split your time between scheduled preventive maintenance and urgent breakdown response, working across electrical control systems, mechanical drive trains, and hydraulic or pneumatic equipment. Your ability to diagnose faults quickly and restore equipment to safe working order has a direct impact on plant availability and production targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, align, and calibrate electro-mechanical parts including sensors, actuators, servo drives, and control modules on processing and packaging lines.
  • Execute planned maintenance routines by inspecting and replacing worn components such as bearings, belts, seals, sprockets, and gear assemblies before they cause line stoppages.
  • Diagnose equipment failures by examining PLC programs, checking digital input/output signals, interpreting ladder logic, and resetting VFD or drive parameters.
  • Read and apply electrical wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and mechanical drawings to trace faults and verify that repaired systems meet specifications.
  • Carry out basic fabrication and repair welding on mild steel, stainless steel, and cast iron parts, including frame repairs and custom brackets.
  • Test machinery after repairs to confirm safety interlocks, emergency stops, and guarding are fully functional before handing equipment back to operations.
  • Record all maintenance work, spare parts usage, and fault analysis details in the CMMS, and communicate status updates to production supervisors and engineers.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Technology, or Industrial Electronics from a recognized institution.
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on technical maintenance experience in a continuous or high-speed manufacturing environment, ideally within FMCG.
  • Working knowledge of PLC platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Delta, plus experience with VFDs, motor controllers, photoelectric sensors, and relay logic systems.
  • Practical welding skills using TIG or SMAW processes on mild steel, stainless steel, and cast iron components.
  • Strong ability to read and troubleshoot from wiring schematics, ladder logic diagrams, and mechanical blueprints.
  • Willingness to work full-time on-site in Lamu, Kenya, including active production shifts and call-outs when machinery faults occur.
  • A disciplined, methodical approach to isolating whether a problem is electrical or mechanical, even under time pressure.
  • Comfort with industrial plant conditions such as heat, noise, confined spaces, and extended periods of standing, combined with a strict commitment to PPE and safety protocols.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Exposure to modern automated FMCG lines featuring multi-axis robotics and advanced PLC-controlled systems, allowing you to sharpen both mechanical and automation skills.
  • Direct ownership of plant uptime and reliability, with the satisfaction of seeing your work translate into smoother production runs and fewer breakdowns.
  • A competitive gross salary of KShs. 50,000–55,000 per month, along with a clear performance pathway toward roles such as Senior Automation Specialist, Maintenance Team Lead, or Plant Engineering.
