Role Overview

This position involves safely operating university vehicles to transport staff, students, and official visitors to their intended destinations. Beyond driving, this role ensures that every vehicle in the fleet remains roadworthy, compliant, and presentable through regular inspections and routine upkeep. Your attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols directly support the university's operational continuity and the well-being of everyone on board.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive university vehicles for authorised trips, carrying passengers and cargo as directed by supervisors.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to identify any mechanical defects, fluid leaks, tyre issues, or other safety hazards.
• Arrange and complete statutory vehicle inspections to guarantee full compliance with local traffic laws and licensing requirements.
• Keep the interior and exterior of assigned vehicles clean, organised, and presentable at all times.
• Report any mechanical faults, damages, or unusual observations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
• Document and report all accidents, near misses, or incidents involving the driver or the vehicle promptly and accurately.
• Ensure that work tickets are properly authorised before departure and completed in line with university procedures.
• Maintain courteous and professional conduct with passengers and fellow road users, always prioritising safety and respect.
• Adhere strictly to speed limits, traffic signs, and all other road regulations while on duty.
• Carry out any additional duties assigned by the immediate supervisor within the scope of the role.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Valid driving licence covering classes A, B, C, and E, including a PSV endorsement.
• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of D (Plain) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
• A Trade Test Grade III (GTT III) certificate or comparable technical qualification.
• Certification in basic first aid, demonstrating readiness to respond to emergencies.
• A valid certificate of good conduct from the relevant authorities.
• Demonstrated defensive driving skills with a disciplined approach to road safety.
• Solid basic mechanical knowledge to identify common vehicle faults and perform simple preventive maintenance.
• At least three years of professional driving experience with an accident-free record.
