Role Overview
This position is responsible for operating school vehicles safely and reliably while supporting the daily transport needs of staff, students, and visitors across Nairobi and surrounding areas. The driver plays a practical role in keeping school operations moving smoothly, from shuttling people to official appointments to handling essential errands and deliveries. Beyond simply driving, the role demands consistent attention to vehicle upkeep, documentation, and professional conduct in every interaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, punctual transport for staff, students, and visitors travelling for school activities, official business, and off-campus events.
- Support the logistics behind school trips, sports fixtures, and special functions by ensuring vehicles are positioned and ready when needed.
- Collect and deliver mail, documents, and packages between the school and external offices or institutions.
- Handle administrative errands such as making minor approved purchases and processing school-related payments, including utility bills.
- Carry out daily pre-trip inspections of assigned vehicles, checking fuel, fluids, tyres, brakes, and essential systems, and report any faults promptly.
- Keep assigned vehicles clean, tidy, and professionally presentable at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, and fuel consumption for every journey.
- Comply fully with traffic laws, school policies, and established safety procedures while on the road.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or an equivalent academic qualification.
- Valid Kenyan driver’s licence in Class D (D1/D2/D3) with a current PSV endorsement.
- A valid certificate of good conduct.
- Minimum of three years of professional driving experience.
- Prior driving experience within a school or educational environment is an added advantage.
- Certification in defensive driving or first aid is an added advantage.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to identify faults and perform simple vehicle checks is an added advantage.
