About the role
- We are looking for an experienced Communications Manager with a strong focus on global health and disability inclusion to support Sightsavers’ global communications strategy and thematic communications plans. You will collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders, support the development of creative content and communication products that are relevant and persuasive, develop an in-depth understanding of our work in Africa and provide on-the-ground communications support to programme teams.
Key duties will include:
- Support the delivery of Sightsavers’ global communications strategy and thematic plans, including budgeting and reporting
- Manage external stakeholders and partners to collaborate on key communications moments, including design and implementation of communication activities
- Support the development of creative content and communication products
- Provide on-the-ground communications support to programme teams in Africa
Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will need:
Essential
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of delivering global communications strategies, plans and activities
- Project management experience and a track record of results in working with a range of organisations and stakeholders
- Demonstrable experience working in the international development / humanitarian sector and awareness and strong commitment to social justice
- Experience of working in organisations and / or on communications campaigns with a strong focus on inclusion
- Experience of designing and managing budgets to deliver communications activities
- Strong experience and understanding of inclusive and accessible communication strategies
- Experience of managing a team
- Experience of working within a global team
- Commitment to disability and gender inclusion
- Excellent English communication skills and fluency in at least one of these local languages (Swahili, Hausa, Bemba /Nyanja, or Twi)
- Agile strategic thinking
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines within strict time constraints
- Strong presentational and public speaking skills
- Ability to effectively delegate and make decisions
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, within a multicultural context
- An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunities for people with disabilities.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office 365
Desirable
- Working proficiency in spoken and written French is desirable.
