Job Description

Role Overview

This position is about keeping assigned facilities in Kibera and Kawangware consistently clean, safe, and hygienic for everyone who uses them. Working under the Site Supervisor, you will carry out daily cleaning routines, manage waste properly, and make sure washrooms and common areas meet a high standard of sanitation. Your work directly supports a healthy environment and prevents the spread of germs in busy community and commercial spaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out regular sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitising of floors, corridors, stairways, and shared areas to keep them presentable and hazard-free.
  • Wipe and dust workstations, furniture, window ledges, and fittings using the correct cleaning products and methods for each surface.
  • Deep-clean and disinfect washrooms, including sinks, toilets, and sanitary fixtures, following a daily hygiene schedule.
  • Empty rubbish bins, sort waste into the right categories, and move it to designated disposal points so odours and pests do not build up.
  • Mix and apply chemical cleaning solutions safely, always following the manufacturer’s instructions and workplace safety rules.
  • Wear the required protective gear whenever handling cleaning chemicals or waste materials.
  • Keep cleaning trolleys, mops, brushes, and chemicals organised in the storage area after each shift, and report any damaged equipment or safety risks to the supervisor immediately.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Hold a KCSE certificate or a basic qualification in housekeeping, hospitality, cleaning technology, or occupational safety.
  • Have hands-on cleaning experience in a commercial, office, residential, or healthcare setting, which will be considered an added advantage.
  • Understand fundamental hygiene principles, daily cleaning routines, and the correct handling of chemical cleaning agents.
  • Be punctual, honest, and able to work reliably without constant oversight.
  • Pay close attention to detail, noticing stains, dusty corners, and areas that need deeper cleaning.
  • Be physically fit for manual work, including bending, lifting buckets, and standing for long periods during a shift.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Kibera or Kawangware, Nairobi, with a monthly salary of KSh 13,000. It is a good opportunity for cleaners who live close to these areas and want stable, structured work in commercial sanitation and housekeeping. You will receive clear direction from a site supervisor and be part of a team focused on maintaining a clean and safe environment for the community.
