Role Overview
This role keeps every customer-facing corner of a building materials showroom clean, safe and presentable throughout the working day. The cleaner moves between display floors, offices, waiting lounges, kitchenettes and washrooms, combining hands-on housekeeping with machine-driven floor care so that walkways stay hazard-free and surfaces hold up under constant foot traffic. Because the showroom is where retail and trade clients decide whether the business looks organised and professional, the standard of cleanliness here has a direct bearing on sales conversations and on day-to-day safety for staff and visitors alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub and polish floors across showroom display areas, offices, glass windows, entrance doors and fixed fittings.
- Deep-clean and regularly sanitise customer washrooms, staff breakrooms, kitchenettes and shared common areas.
- Operate floor scrubbers, heavy-duty vacuums and buffing machines safely, adjusting technique to suit tile, wood, vinyl or metallic finishes.
- Select and mix detergents, disinfectants and polishes correctly, following dilution ratios, surface suitability and chemical safety rules.
- Empty waste bins, separate refuse streams and dispose of waste in line with environmental and site standards.
- Respond immediately to spills, tracked-in mud and scattered debris to remove slip and trip hazards for customers and colleagues.
- Carry out routine user maintenance on cleaning equipment, report breakdowns to the supervisor and store all machines and chemicals securely after use.
- Track stock levels of sanitisers, soaps, paper products and cleaning chemicals, and notify supervisors when reorders are needed; support scheduled deep cleans, warehouse aisle detailing and showroom layout resets.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least one year of verifiable cleaning experience in a commercial showroom, corporate office, hotel or retail setting.
- Practical, hands-on operation of floor scrubbers, industrial vacuums and buffing or polishing machines — this is essential and cannot be learned entirely on the job.
- Working knowledge of surface-specific cleaning agents, dilution ratios and safe chemical handling.
- Physical stamina and good general health to sustain standing, walking, bending and equipment handling across full shift hours.
- Self-motivated, disciplined and punctual, with an eye for the small details that separate an acceptable clean from an excellent one.
- Ability to follow written and verbal safety and hygiene instructions, including occupational safety and chemical handling guidelines.
- Must be available to work on-site along Mombasa Road, Nairobi. No specific academic qualification is stipulated; selection centres on practical experience, reliability and demonstrated equipment competence.
What We Offer / Why Join
- A full-time, on-site position based along Mombasa Road in Nairobi, with a monthly salary of KSh 18,000.
- A fixed shift-based schedule at a single location, working within a retail showroom environment rather than rotating between multiple sites.
