Job Description

Role Overview

This position is the on-the-ground owner of hygiene standards across an active school campus in Ongata Rongai, where classrooms, offices and shared facilities must stay clean, safe and presentable every single day. Working under the Head of Department, the Cleaning Supervisor builds and runs the daily janitorial schedule, walks the grounds to check that work has actually been done to standard, and keeps cleaning chemicals, consumables and equipment stocked and serviceable. It is a hands-on supervisory role suited to someone who is comfortable leading a team from the front while also tracking rotas, inspections and inventory. The role is full-time, based on-site, and pays a monthly salary of KSh 30,000.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and publish daily and shift duty rosters for the janitorial team so that every area of the campus is covered on every shift, including peak periods.
  • Run regular physical inspections of classrooms, offices, washrooms and communal spaces, scoring them against the institution's hygiene and presentation standards and following up on any shortfalls.
  • Assign tasks, supervise work in progress and coach housekeeping staff on correct cleaning methods, safe chemical use and equipment handling.
  • Track attendance registers, punctuality and shift discipline, and raise repeated absences or conduct issues with the Head of Department.
  • Monitor stock levels of detergents, disinfectants, paper products and personal protective equipment, and raise requisitions early enough to prevent stock-outs.
  • Check that chemicals are diluted and stored correctly and that protective gear is worn as required.
  • Inspect cleaning machines and tools, arrange routine servicing and flag damaged or unserviceable items for repair or replacement.
  • Liaise with external cleaning contractors and other internal departments on facilities issues, and report hazards, equipment needs and performance updates to the Head of Department.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • KCSE certificate or an equivalent secondary school qualification.
  • Six months to one year of supervisory experience in commercial cleaning, janitorial services, hospitality housekeeping or institutional facilities support.
  • Formal training in housekeeping, cleaning technology, institutional management or facilities support is an added advantage.
  • Working command of written and spoken English or Kiswahili.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate work, lead a shift and hold a team to safety and quality standards.
  • High integrity, reliability and attention to detail, with a proactive approach to spotting and solving problems.
  • Comfort working on-site across a busy educational campus and handling the physical demands of the role.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • A monthly salary of KSh 30,000.
  • Full-time, on-site employment at a campus in Ongata Rongai, Kenya.
  • A supervisory post within the education sector, with direct responsibility for team scheduling, quality inspections and stock control.
  • The chance to build practical leadership and facilities management experience in a structured, standards-driven environment.
