Role Overview
This role sits at the heart of the telecoms operations team, owning every stage of the change management lifecycle from initial request through to post-implementation review. You will work daily with internal engineers, external suppliers, and clients to assess the impact of planned and emergency changes, secure the right approvals, and coordinate schedules so that network services remain stable and downtime is kept to a minimum. Your ability to keep multiple parties aligned and to spot risks early directly protects the reliability of the fibre and transport networks the business depends on.
Key Responsibilities
- Chair and run Change Advisory Board and operational review sessions, guiding stakeholders through change policies and helping them understand what is required for a successful submission.
- Examine every change request from internal teams, vendors, and customers to verify that it is complete, technically coherent, and aligned with business priorities, then determine the appropriate approval path.
- Assess the service impact, risk level, and expected benefit of each change, ensuring that any potential disruption to customers or network services is clearly documented and accepted before work begins.
- Coordinate the scheduling, resourcing, and communication of changes, ensuring that all technical teams have what they need and that customers are informed at every stage.
- Act as the single point of contact between clients, suppliers, and internal teams for both planned and emergency activities, handling escalation promptly and keeping satisfaction levels high.
- Manage a busy queue of concurrent changes without losing sight of detail, and be ready to support out-of-hours and weekend implementations when the network requires it.
- Keep accurate records of all change activity, support internal audits and data quality checks, and produce clear reports that highlight exceptions, risks, or delays to the Change Control Manager.
- Identify and recommend improvements to change workflows, governance, and risk handling so that the process becomes faster and more reliable over time.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through hands-on experience in a relevant technical environment.
- Professional certification in Change Management (CCMP), networking (CCNA/JNCIA), ITIL, or Project Management from a recognised body is strongly preferred.
- At least three years of experience in the telecom sector, with direct involvement in change control, service management, or a closely related coordination role.
- Working knowledge of telecoms infrastructure including Fibre, DWDM, OTN, SDH, Ethernet, and IP/MPLS, so that technical discussions with engineers and suppliers are productive.
- Hands-on experience with CRM platforms, ideally NetSuite, and advanced proficiency in Excel for manipulating and analysing data from multiple sources with complete accuracy.
- Exceptional communication skills in English, with the ability to listen carefully, condense complex information, and explain it clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
- A reliable, relationship-driven approach that puts the client first, backed by integrity, honesty, and a calm demeanour during high-pressure situations.
- Strong decision-making and strategic thinking, especially when evaluating risks and trade-offs, plus the flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
