Role Overview
This telecom network support role helps keep transmission and data services available around the clock. You will monitor network equipment, assist with installation and commissioning, and support fault resolution while maintaining accurate operational records and working with the NOC, TAC, Service Manager, and other teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide field support on a 24/7 basis, including on-call shifts and work at night, on weekends, and public holidays when needed.
- Monitor network equipment and facilities, and assist with network quality and performance management.
- Support network installation, testing, commissioning, integration, and service activation, including cross-connects and jumpering.
- Assist with incidents and problems as directed by the NOC or TAC, and provide Service Desk cover when required.
- Maintain equipment, inventory, and spares records; receive equipment, perform bench tests, arrange storage, and process returns for repair (RMA).
- Prepare ad hoc reports and provide technical support to shareholders, including consultancy and sales assistance.
- Support the Service Manager and contribute to other departmental activities and projects as directed by the Programme Manager.
- Drive company vehicles when required and follow company policies and procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least three years of relevant experience in the telecommunications industry.
- Working knowledge of OTN, DWDM, SDH, Ethernet, and IP/MPLS networks.
- Familiarity with routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP.
- Experience supporting transmission and switching equipment from manufacturers such as MikroTik, Juniper, or Tejas Networks.
- Ability to use operational systems to enter accurate, concise information promptly.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen carefully and follow instructions.
- Sound problem-solving and prioritisation skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- CCNA and Cisco, MikroTik, or fibre-optic certifications are desirable.
