Role Overview
This position owns the growth of a spare parts business serving heavy equipment owners and operators — you will spend your days hunting down new accounts, sitting with customers to work out which components their machines need, and moving those opportunities through quotation, negotiation, and repeat order. The value you bring is commercial and technical at once: you translate a fleet list or a breakdown into the right parts, and you turn a one-off purchase into an ongoing supply relationship across construction, mining, agriculture, logistics, and manufacturing customers. Success in this seat directly expands the customer base, opens new market segments, and lifts market share in a category where uptime matters to the buyer and recurring demand works in the seller's favour.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and work a live sales pipeline for heavy equipment spare parts, sourcing prospects through market research, industry referrals, site visits, networking, and existing sector contacts.
- Read customer equipment requirements — brand, model, application, and duty cycle — and recommend suitable replacement, maintenance, and consumable parts accordingly.
- Prepare quotations and commercial proposals, then follow each enquiry through to decision, chasing outstanding quotes and stalled opportunities rather than letting them go cold.
- Negotiate pricing and commercial terms inside approved guidelines while protecting margin, and consistently hit or exceed agreed sales targets.
- Manage a portfolio of existing accounts with scheduled visits and account reviews, tracking purchase patterns and upcoming needs to create upsell and cross-sell openings.
- Map the market for new industries, companies, projects, and customer segments, keeping an eye on competitor pricing, product availability, and upcoming construction, mining, agricultural, and infrastructure work.
- Keep customer and sales records accurate, log leads, quotes, negotiations and closures, and submit weekly and monthly performance reports with market and competitor feedback for management.
- Coordinate with procurement and technical colleagues to source required parts, check stock and delivery with logistics and warehouse teams, follow orders through to fulfilment, and liaise with finance on account and payment matters.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable discipline.
- Five to ten years of relevant experience in business development, sales, or commercial roles, with a proven B2B track record.
- Direct experience selling heavy equipment spare parts is strongly preferred; a working command of machinery, components, and applications is essential to advising customers credibly.
- Demonstrated history of meeting and exceeding sales targets, including evidence of building accounts and generating repeat business.
- Prior exposure to construction, mining, agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, or other equipment-intensive sectors is an advantage.
- Strong capability in prospecting, account management, pipeline discipline, negotiation and closing, market research, quotation and proposal preparation, and CRM-based sales reporting.
