Role Overview
This regional maintenance leadership position keeps fiber routes, network nodes, and 4G assets serving a defined area in reliable working order. The role combines field-level technical oversight with daily management of maintenance crews, contractors, and external stakeholders whose activities can affect network integrity. Success matters because proactive upkeep, rapid fault recovery, and safe execution directly reduce customer impact and protect service continuity across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of routine and reactive upkeep for fiber infrastructure, network nodes, and 4G equipment across the assigned region, keeping underground and overhead routes in sound condition through inspections and timely repairs.
- Direct maintenance teams by assigning work, tracking progress, following up on open issues, and coordinating troubleshooting and fault restoration with field staff and contractors.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on nodes, power systems, and air-conditioning equipment, using scheduled inspections to identify and address potential failures before they disrupt service.
- Build and maintain working relationships with road authorities such as KURA, construction contractors, telecommunications providers, and other utility stakeholders to reduce the risk of damage to the fiber backbone and access network.
- Represent the maintenance function in external meetings and coordinate across parties so that third-party works, permits, and field activities do not compromise network assets.
- Prepare regular management reports covering network performance, customer impact, and maintenance progress, and ensure assigned trouble tickets are tracked through to timely resolution.
- Keep splicing equipment and assigned tools properly maintained, serviced, and repaired so field teams can rely on them being ready for use.
- Enforce safety requirements across all maintenance activities and ensure the regional team works within established safety standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree or Higher National Diploma in Electronics, Telecommunications, or a closely related discipline.
- At least six years of experience in network maintenance and support, including a minimum of three years in a supervisory capacity.
- Proven experience managing a team and coordinating contractors is essential.
- Strong technical understanding of electrical and telecommunications infrastructure, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in a fast-paced operating environment.
- Demonstrated leadership and coordination ability, including managing people and projects with a focus on performance and efficiency.
- Excellent analytical skills and sound decision-making, particularly for identifying and resolving network problems proactively.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills for liaising with contractors, authorities, and cross-functional teams.
