Business Analyst Associate (SPARK Internship)

Role Overview

As a Business Analyst Associate, you will work hands-on with programme, research, and monitoring teams to turn raw data into insights that guide decisions in agricultural development and market systems initiatives. Day to day, you will clean and validate datasets, build dashboards, analyse trends, and support performance reviews – all while learning how evidence shapes real-world programmes. This internship exists because EAMDA needs fresh analytical talent to strengthen its data practices and help measure impact more effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, validate, and manage programme and research data to maintain high quality and consistency.
• Assist in creating and updating dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and interactive visualisations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Analyse quantitative and qualitative data to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights that inform programme design and reporting.
• Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities such as tracking performance indicators, conducting surveys, and contributing to learning briefs.
• Contribute to market assessments, value chain studies, and sector research by gathering and synthesising market intelligence.
• Help document data management processes, maintain databases, and ensure data governance practices are followed.
• Collaborate with programme teams to understand their data needs and produce custom reports or analytical products.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (completed or final year) in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Agricultural Economics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Monitoring & Evaluation, or a closely related quantitative field.
• Proficiency in at least one data analysis tool such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Python, R, SQL, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with data visualisation and dashboard development concepts.
• Understanding of fundamental statistical methods and analytical techniques.
• Experience working with datasets and performing quantitative analysis (academic or project-based).
• Basic knowledge of survey tools like KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, or Google Forms is an added advantage.
• Interest in or exposure to agriculture, agribusiness, development programmes, or market systems development.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, ability to communicate findings clearly, and comfort working in multidisciplinary teams.
• Must be a recent graduate (within the last three years) and available for the full three‑month internship period.
