Role Overview
As Jacaranda’s product research lead, you will investigate how people use PROMPTS, DELTA, and PULSE, and whether these products are reaching users and delivering meaningful results. You’ll combine behavioral data with direct user research, then turn the evidence into decisions that guide product development and Jacaranda’s wider Research & Learning Agenda. You will also establish the processes and standards that make research a reliable part of how product teams work.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct research suited to each product question, using methods such as usability sessions, interviews, short surveys, message or feature experiments, and analysis of engagement and retention data.
- Assess product reach, patterns of engagement, continued use, and effectiveness across PROMPTS, DELTA, and PULSE.
- Interpret product usage data alongside qualitative findings, and present practical recommendations to product, design, engineering, and data colleagues.
- Decide when a question needs a rigorous, in-depth study and when a faster test will provide sufficient evidence for an upcoming product decision.
- Establish and maintain the product research workflow, including study intake, prioritization, success criteria, templates, and documentation practices.
- Create guides and training materials that help product managers conduct appropriate lightweight research themselves.
- Oversee the research function’s delivery schedule, budget, and resourcing as the practice develops, and incorporate research into planning and product review cycles.
- Work with Product, Tech, Medical, and Data leads; share findings with department and technical leadership; and, as demand grows, hire and support one or two Product Research Analysts.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least five years of experience in product research, UX research, or a closely related mixed-methods research role.
- A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree in a relevant area, such as HCI, behavioral science, public health, or social science, is preferred.
- Experience creating or managing a research practice, including developing processes, templates, and approaches to prioritization.
- Strong quantitative skills, including the ability to interpret product usage, engagement, and retention data, such as SMS activity or product logs.
- Practical experience with qualitative research methods, including usability testing and user interviews.
- Ability to connect research evidence to product decisions and influence recommendations with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience partnering with product managers, designers, developers, analysts, and engineers in an agile or similar delivery environment.
- Experience in digital health, behavior-change, or messaging-based products is an advantage.
