Role Overview
This position is responsible for managing day-to-day production at the Sabaki Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant, where treated sludge is converted into fuel briquettes as part of a circular waste-to-resource operation. The supervisor will coordinate the entire production chain—from feedstock handling and carbonization through mixing, drying, and pressing—while ensuring that output meets quality standards, safety protocols are followed, and production targets are met. The role directly supports the company's environmental and public health objectives by turning sanitation by-products into a usable energy product.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise daily briquette production activities, including carbonization, drying, mixing, and pressing, to ensure smooth workflow and consistent output.
- Operate and maintain briquette production machinery and related electro-mechanical equipment, performing routine checks and coordinating repairs when needed.
- Enforce safe handling procedures for sludge-derived feedstock and monitor compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) standards across all work areas.
- Inspect product quality at each stage and verify that finished briquettes meet specified standards for moisture content, density, and combustion performance.
- Maintain accurate production records, inventory logs, and equipment checklists, and report performance data to management.
- Train, guide, and supervise production staff and casual workers, ensuring they follow operating procedures and work efficiently as a team.
- Identify and resolve basic mechanical or process issues quickly to minimise downtime and prevent interruptions in production.
- Coordinate feedstock availability, storage, and drying schedules to keep production running without delays.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Technology, Environmental Science, or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant working experience; or a Diploma in one of those fields with at least 5 years of relevant working experience.
- Hands-on experience in briquette or biomass production, including familiarity with carbonization, pressing, and drying processes.
- Basic electro-mechanical troubleshooting ability to identify and address plant and process faults.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety, hygiene, and environmental requirements in a production setting.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills with the ability to manage small teams and keep operations organised.
- Attention to detail and a consistent approach to quality control.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to train and instruct workers clearly.
- High level of integrity and a strong work ethic.
