Role Overview
The Optic Fiber Specialist plans and configures optical networks and helps take them from design through installation, testing, and handover. By ensuring that fiber links meet performance standards and that network records are reliable, the role supports dependable, high-capacity data transmission.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and configure optical transmission networks to support capacity, reliability, and service requirements.
- Plan and carry out fiber cable deployment, including routing and installation.
- Perform fusion splicing and troubleshoot faults in fiber infrastructure.
- Test optical links with OTDRs and power meters, assessing attenuation and verifying performance against specifications.
- Complete quality checks during installation and resolve issues identified through testing.
- Prepare and maintain accurate fiber route records, splice diagrams, and as-built documentation.
- Provide technical support during network rollout activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or higher qualification in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- At least five years of experience in telecommunications and ICT.
- At least three years of hands-on experience designing and configuring optical transmission networks.
- Practical capability in fiber installation, routing, fusion splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience using OTDRs and optical power meters to assess link quality and performance.
