Role Overview
This position carries full ownership of a branch's commercial and operational performance, acting as the link between head office strategy and what actually happens at the counter and in the field. Day to day, the job blends people leadership with hands-on lending work — coaching a team of loan officers, reviewing credit applications, monitoring repayment behaviour, and staying close to borrowers so that portfolio quality holds up as the book grows. The branch's reputation in its community rests largely on how well this role balances growth ambition with disciplined credit practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the daily running of the branch, setting work plans, allocating portfolios and making sure service standards and turnaround times are met.
- Lead, coach and appraise branch staff, building a team that can originate quality loans and handle customers confidently.
- Drive customer acquisition and expand the lending portfolio through local market outreach, referral networks and community presence.
- Assess and recommend loan applications in line with credit policy, including client visits and verification where required.
- Monitor the portfolio continuously — tracking arrears, following up overdue repayments and managing collections and recovery in line with policy.
- Build and retain long-term client relationships, handling queries, renewals and complaints in a way that protects both the customer and the institution.
- Ensure every branch activity complies with internal policies, credit procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Identify new business opportunities in the catchment area and deliver against branch targets for growth, portfolio quality and profitability.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics or a closely related discipline.
- Three to five years of experience in microfinance, banking or financial services, including demonstrable branch management exposure.
- Hands-on background in lending and collections, with a clear understanding of credit assessment and portfolio management.
- Proven people leadership — able to motivate, develop and hold a team accountable for results.
- Strong business development and customer relationship skills, comfortable working in the field as well as in the office.
- Target-driven mindset supported by solid analytical and communication abilities.
