Role Overview
This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and routine maintenance of low- and high-pressure boilers, including steam and hot water systems. The role ensures heating systems run safely and efficiently by performing visual inspections, adjusting controls, recording pressure and temperature readings, and testing water chemistry. Coordinating with lead technicians and handling emergency repairs keeps plant operations reliable and compliant with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Start up, operate, and shut down boilers of various pressure and temperature ranges, adjusting to changing load demands.
- Routinely inspect boiler components such as pipes, valves, pumps, and safety devices for leaks, wear, or malfunctions.
- Conduct blowdown procedures when conductivity or impurity levels exceed limits, and test high- and low-pressure safety controls.
- Monitor and record meter readings for pressure, temperature, steam output, fuel consumption, and water quality indicators (TDS, PPM, pH).
- Add conditioning chemicals to boiler water, perform conductivity, alkalinity, phosphate, silica, and hardness tests to maintain prescribed chemical balance.
- Supervise daily lubrication and greasing of stokers, fans, motors, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and various valve types, pressure switches, and safety valves.
- Order fuel (gas and oil) deliveries as needed and maintain inventory consumption logs.
- Assist with emergency repairs, follow fire and safety precautions, and cooperate with state or other inspectors during audits.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Plant or Production options.
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in boiler operation and maintenance, including installation work on boiler systems and related equipment.
