Role Overview
This role keeps the electrical and mechanical infrastructure of an overseas facility safe, compliant, and available, with elevators and related power and control systems as a central focus. The person in this position divides their time between planned maintenance, fault finding, repairs, and documentation, often relying on prints and manufacturer instructions to restore equipment quickly. The work matters because dependable elevator and electrical systems directly support site safety, regulatory obligations, and the daily movement of people through the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Make safety the first consideration in every task and follow all environmental, health, safety, and quality assurance requirements; supply records and technical information to those teams when needed.
- Trace electrical and mechanical faults in brakes, motors, switches, signal circuits, and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters, and similar diagnostic tools.
- Disassemble faulty equipment and either repair or replace worn or broken parts, including locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
- Lubricate bearings and other moving parts to control friction and support reliable operation.
- Install and repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit runs, and other transmission or distribution equipment, working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, and specifications.
- Complete preventive maintenance on schedule and according to procedures and warranty requirements, and suggest improvements to preventive maintenance task content or frequency.
- Test and verify equipment performance with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, frequency counters, and other standard trade instruments.
- Carry out other duties consistent with the role’s scope and level as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of an apprentice program with a Journeyman’s Certificate and/or equivalent hands-on field experience.
- Ability to read and interpret working sketches, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ operation and maintenance manuals.
- Working knowledge of relevant European and/or U.S. electrical codes and accepted trade practices.
- Familiarity with annual maintenance requirements for electrical and mechanical systems and with load-testing procedures.
- Understanding of elevator operating and maintenance principles in an overseas facility setting.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and correct handling of equipment and materials.
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at once, adapt quickly to shifting priorities and schedules, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Cross-cultural awareness and an international outlook.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read, and understand English clearly enough to share and gather technical information.
- Valid passport and the ability to travel internationally; the passport must remain valid for at least one year at the time of hire.
- Ability to obtain any required country visa in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to pass contract medical requirements and remain medically compliant throughout deployment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials and authorization.
Preferred qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with Otis GEN2 MRL elevators.
- Previous work in an austere OCONUS location with a multi-national workforce.
