Role Overview
You will step into a Biology teaching position within a school that follows the Cambridge International curriculum, guiding students through both IGCSE and A Level pathways. Your primary focus each term will be to deliver clear, engaging lessons that build deep conceptual understanding, while systematically preparing learners for the rigours of Cambridge examinations. Beyond test outcomes, you will play an active part in nurturing curiosity, scientific literacy, and the personal growth of every student in your classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver structured Biology lessons aligned with the Cambridge IGCSE and A Level syllabuses, ensuring progression and coherence across year groups.
- Prepare students thoroughly for Cambridge examinations, including targeted revision sessions, past-paper practice, and exam technique coaching.
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments, then use the results to adapt teaching strategies and support individual learning needs.
- Develop and update practical laboratory activities, demonstrations, and investigations that reinforce theoretical concepts and develop scientific skills.
- Maintain accurate records of student attainment, attendance, and progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and departmental leadership.
- Employ learner-centred teaching methods, including inquiry-based learning, group work, and differentiation, to accommodate varying abilities and learning styles.
- Uphold positive classroom management while fostering a respectful, inclusive, and academically challenging environment.
- Collaborate with the Science Department and wider teaching staff to align curriculum delivery, share resources, and contribute to school-wide academic initiatives.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Education with a Biology specialism, or another closely related field.
- Full registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and a valid teaching certificate.
- At least five years of classroom teaching experience within the Cambridge International curriculum, ideally including IGCSE and A Level.
- A demonstrated track record of successfully preparing students for IGCSE Biology examinations, with consistently strong learner results.
- Thorough familiarity with the Cambridge Biology syllabus, including its assessment objectives, mark schemes, and examination formats.
- Previous experience teaching A Level Biology is an advantage, as is a clear willingness to teach at that level if required.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a genuine ability to connect with secondary school learners.
