Job Description

Role Overview

This position focuses on keeping clinical equipment safe, accurate, and available for daily patient care. You will work across hospital departments to perform scheduled upkeep, respond to breakdowns, and support clinical teams who depend on reliable medical technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventive maintenance routines, calibration checks, and performance tests on diagnostic, monitoring, and life-support devices.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures quickly, identify root causes, and complete repairs to reduce disruption to clinical operations.
  • Install and commission new medical systems, verifying that setup aligns with manufacturer specifications and applicable safety standards.
  • Inspect existing equipment for wear, electrical safety, and functional accuracy, documenting any issues that require corrective action.
  • Provide practical training and guidance to nurses, physicians, and technicians on correct device operation and safe handling practices.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance histories, service logs, inventory records, and compliance documentation for all managed equipment.
  • Coordinate with external service vendors when specialized repairs or advanced technical support are required.
  • Stay current with medical device regulations, safety protocols, and manufacturer updates to support ongoing compliance.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, medical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Active membership and valid registration with the relevant engineering regulatory board or professional body.
  • A minimum of 1–2 years of hands-on experience maintaining or repairing medical equipment within a hospital or clinical facility.
  • Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting ability, including familiarity with electronic circuits, motors, sensors, and control systems.
  • Solid understanding of medical device safety standards, calibration procedures, and infection-control considerations.
  • Methodical documentation skills and attention to detail when recording service activity and equipment status.
  • Effective communication skills to interact professionally with clinical staff and explain technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize urgent repairs, and manage a varied workload across multiple departments.
