Swahilipot Hub Foundation is a non-profit organisation that meaningfully engages and empowers youth aged 18 to 35, enabling them to unleash their full potential. Based in Mombasa, Kenya, it is regulated by the NGO Coordination Board of Kenya. In 2016, Mahmoud Noor (alias Mentor001) founded Swahilipot Hub with support from the National Museums of Kenya, SEACOM, ICT Authority, and Cisco — opening a space where coastal youth could explore technology, innovation, and creative talent. What began as a community-based organisation focused on technology and innovation has grown into an NGO with diverse program areas and reach across East Africa. View more View less

Job Description

Role Overview

As an Attachment Program participant at Swahilipot Hub, you will spend ten weeks embedded in a fast-paced innovation environment, contributing to real projects that support Kenya's coastal tech ecosystem. Your daily work involves collaborating with mentors and peers on tasks ranging from digital content creation and community engagement to basic software development or data analysis, depending on your background. This role matters because every project you touch helps strengthen local startups, train fellow innovators, and position Swahilipot as a leading hub for youth-driven technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing community events, workshops, or hackathons that connect students, professionals, and entrepreneurs.
  • Support the content team by drafting social media posts, blog articles, or video scripts that spotlight Hub activities and success stories.
  • Contribute to ongoing digital products or prototypes under the guidance of senior developers or designers.
  • Document project workflows, user feedback, and meeting notes to improve team knowledge-sharing.
  • Conduct basic research on emerging tech trends, local market needs, or competitor hubs to inform strategic decisions.
  • Help maintain physical and digital workspaces, including managing equipment checkouts and online resource libraries.
  • Participate in weekly check-ins with your supervisor to track progress on assigned deliverables and personal learning goals.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate (within the past 12 months) of a university, technical college, or recognised training programme in ICT, business, communications, or a related field.
  • Basic proficiency with digital tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, or Canva; familiarity with coding languages (HTML/CSS, Python) is an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili; ability to present ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn, with a demonstrated interest in technology, innovation, or entrepreneurship.
  • Ability to commit to the full 10‑week attachment period (7 September – 27 November 2026) and attend in-person sessions at the Swahilipot Hub in Mombasa.

What We Offer / Why Join

You will gain hands‑on experience that goes beyond theory, working directly with industry professionals who actively shape Kenya’s innovation landscape. The program provides a structured yet flexible learning path, access to a vibrant community of peers and mentors, and a certificate of completion that validates your practical skills. This is your chance to build a professional network and a portfolio of work that can kick‑start your career in tech, social enterprise, or creative industries.
