Role Overview
This university-level student affairs role supports the Dean of Students in shaping a safe, supportive, and well-regulated campus environment. Day to day, you will coordinate student welfare initiatives, oversee disciplinary processes, and act as a trusted advisor to student groups, while keeping the Dean informed through clear reporting and administrative follow-through. Your work matters because it helps maintain order, promotes student well-being, and ensures that co-curricular life runs smoothly across the institution.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Dean to design, launch, and assess programmes that promote student welfare, personal growth, and positive campus engagement.
- Implement university conduct policies by handling discipline cases, gathering evidence, and recommending fair, consistent resolutions that uphold institutional values.
- Guide student leaders, clubs, and associations in areas such as event planning, budgeting, leadership development, and constitutional compliance.
- Act as the central point of contact between students and academic departments, security teams, accommodation services, and external community stakeholders.
- Provide direct advice and referral support to students facing personal, academic, or emotional difficulties, including mental health concerns and crisis situations.
- Monitor trends in student welfare and discipline, then compile periodic reports with recommendations for the Dean of Students.
- Handle administrative functions assigned by the Dean, including record management, meeting coordination, and correspondence with internal and external parties.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A master's degree in education, counselling psychology, student affairs, higher education administration, or a closely related field from an accredited university.
- At least three years of relevant professional experience in student services, university administration, or student support work within a higher education environment.
- A minimum of two years in a leadership role equivalent to Assistant Dean of Students at a recognised institution of higher learning.
- Proven leadership, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters diplomatically and with confidentiality.
- Strong report-writing and administrative skills, including the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Solid understanding of the challenges facing university students in Kenya, including mental health, safety, and social integration.
- Membership in the Kenya Counselling and Psychological Association (KCPA) or a similar recognised guidance and counselling body is an added advantage.
