We prepare the next generation of leaders and innovators through world-class teaching methods with an emphasis on 21st century skills. We established Nova Pioneer because we believe education should prepare young people to create their future, not just work in it. Nova Pioneer is a launchpad where ambitious young Africans can begin to shape a better future for the continent and the world. We began by asking ourselves the question, "What capabilities will young people need to succeed in and shape the future that they will encounter, and what approaches to education will best develop those capabilities?” All of our founders have extensive backgrounds in education at top institutions across the globe, having studied at universities such as Harvard and Stanford and led education programs for McKinsey and Co., the African Leadership Academy, and top school networks in the US (Excel Academies). Yet at Nova Pioneer we believe that you never stop learning. So we visited and studied leading schools spanning from Singapore to Peru, and the United States to the United Kingdom. We connected with leaders of the cutting-edge education research, and leading thinkers on 21st Century Learning such as Sir Ken Robinson and teachers and atelieristas from Reggio Emilia, the leading global early education model, to name a few. We launched our first school in South Africa in 2014, with the aim of incorporating the best education models in the world, while keeping it as affordable as possible. We’ve since expanded within South Africa, and to Kenya as well - with our first Kenyan school launching in 2015. In all of our schools, we bring in and train top educators to deliver educational excellence in an environment that nurtures our students to uncover their potential and blaze trails in the world beyond our school walls. Job Description

Role Overview

This position places you at the heart of a young learner’s daily experience, where you will guide children through a balanced mix of structured lessons, creative play, and social interaction. You will be responsible for creating a warm, orderly classroom atmosphere that supports each child’s emotional, physical, and intellectual growth while keeping parents and school leadership informed of progress. Your work matters because the early years set the tone for lifelong curiosity, confidence, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver daily lessons, schemes of work, and play-based activities that align with the school’s curriculum and respond to each child’s developmental stage.
  • Prepare and maintain teaching aids, learning materials, and play equipment, ensuring everything is clean, safe, and ready for active use.
  • Supervise children throughout the day—during lessons, free play, mealtimes, and transitions—to maintain order and prevent accidents.
  • Establish clear behaviour expectations and consistently enforce rules that help children feel secure and understand boundaries.
  • Observe and evaluate each child’s progress, compiling written reports for parents and school leaders, and keeping accurate records of development and milestones.
  • Greet children as they arrive, help them settle into the school environment, and guide them toward activities that spark their interest.
  • Plan and oversee experiential learning opportunities such as class projects, field trips, and guest visits, helping students draw meaningful lessons from these experiences.
  • Support daily logistical routines, including assisting with bus loading and unloading, to ensure children are accounted for and safe at all times.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Valid TSC certification, plus either a Degree in Education or a Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE).
  • At least 1–2 years of hands-on teaching experience, ideally in early years or lower primary settings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with young children, parents, and fellow educators effectively.
  • Flexibility and comfort with changing routines, unexpected situations, and the natural unpredictability of working with young children.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset—able to spot challenges early and address them calmly and thoroughly.
  • Alignment with a feedback-driven, collaborative culture where continuous improvement and openness to growth are valued.
