JSS Mathematics/ Physics Resident Teacher, Maternity Cover (2months)

Role Overview

This teaching role is centred on building a lively, secure classroom where young learners feel confident to explore, play, and develop foundational skills. You will turn the school’s curriculum into daily lessons and activities, track each child’s progress, and work closely with families and school leaders to keep development visible and supported. The work matters because it directly shapes students’ early curiosity, resilience, and readiness to grow into future innovators and leaders.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a safe, welcoming environment across classrooms, outdoor spaces, and transition times, including bus loading and unloading.
• Plan and deliver daily learning experiences that align with the curriculum, schemes of work, and lesson plans, while helping to review and update those plans with the Curriculum Development Manager.
• Design and administer assessments for subject areas or topics when required, then use the results to inform teaching.
• Observe, evaluate, and document each child’s development, and prepare written progress reports for the Principal, other school leaders, and parents.
• Offer a range of materials and resources for hands-on exploration, imaginative play, and creative learning, and teach students how to use equipment and materials safely.
• Lead activities that support physical, mental, and social growth, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
• Adapt instruction for individuals and small groups so that varied needs, interests, and learning styles are met; help new students settle in by greeting them, assisting with outerwear, and guiding them toward activities that interest them.
• Set clear behaviour expectations and classroom routines, plan and supervise projects, field trips, guest visits, and other experiential learning, and take part in professional meetings, conferences, and training workshops.

Requirements & Qualifications

• TSC certificate.
• A relevant degree in Education.
• 3+ years of teaching experience.
• Confident working with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for planning, records, and communication.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain ideas clearly to students, colleagues, and parents.
• Flexible and open to change, able to work well with uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.
• Proactive problem solver who spots issues and follows through to find suitable solutions.
• Willingness to embrace a culture of mutual vulnerability and frequent, direct feedback.
• Desire to develop leadership skills and use them to improve the lives of African youth.
