Job Description

Role Overview

As a Trainer in Counseling Psychology, you will lead learning across seminars, workshops, tutorials and practical sessions, guiding trainees from core theory into supervised, hands-on practice. Alongside delivery, you will shape the curriculum, build learning materials and run assessments that keep the programme credible and current. The role sits at the centre of the institute's mission: turning out graduates whose counseling competencies are recognised by regulators and valued by employers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Counseling Psychology learning through trainings, seminars, workshops, tutorials and other assigned learning activities.
  • Design, administer and mark examinations, practical tasks, assignments and continuous assessment tests, and prepare schemes of work in line with programme objectives.
  • Develop and review learning materials and resources, contributing to curriculum research and validation of what is taught.
  • Track and document trainee progress, achievement and attendance, and ensure assessment results are entered into the examination records management system within set deadlines.
  • Guide trainees individually — offering feedback and advice on professional development and referring them to support services when needed — and supervise their practical work.
  • Champion trainee creativity and innovation by supporting contests, trade fairs and project work.
  • Build and maintain industry linkages that open up experiential learning, training excursions and attachment placements.
  • Contribute to academic policy and guiding principles, take part in departmental seminars and research-sharing, serve on committees and working groups when called upon, and manage learning inventories, tools and equipment.
  • Keep your own practice current through continuous professional development and staff training required by regulators.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling Psychology or a related discipline from an accredited or recognised institution.
  • Registration as a Trainer with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
  • At least two (2) years of teaching experience at tertiary level, or three (3) years of industry-based experience in an equivalent capacity.
  • Certificate from an approved Trainer of Trainers course.
  • A professional qualification or membership in a professional association is an added advantage.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with confident presentation skills.
  • Critical thinking, sound time management and close attention to detail.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Support for continuous professional development through staff development and regulator-required training activities.
  • A departmental culture of research sharing, with regular seminars that build interdisciplinary collaboration inside and beyond the department.
  • Direct engagement with industry partners through experiential learning, excursions and attachment programmes.
  • The chance to influence academic policy, curriculum design and the learning resources that shape the next cohort of counseling practitioners.
