Job Description

Role Overview

This teaching role places art and design at the centre of pupils’ day-to-day learning. The postholder prepares and delivers creative lessons that match the school’s stated vision and mission, collaborates with colleagues on curriculum planning, and monitors how each child develops academically, socially and creatively. The work matters because it helps learners build confidence, meet expected targets, and move forward with the skills and self-assurance they need for the next stage of their education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach art and design lessons that meet the school’s vision and mission and maintain a high standard of classroom delivery.
  • Work with other teachers to create and refine unit plans and lesson plans across the curriculum.
  • Help pupils gain strong knowledge and practical skills so they make measurable progress, reach their targets, and are ready for the next phase of their studies or careers.
  • Keep required teaching records up to date, including unit plans, records of work, course outlines, and class analyses.
  • Adapt lessons and materials to suit different learning needs, abilities, and paces within the classroom.
  • Engage learners through activities such as storytelling, role play, and recognition of numbers, letters, colours, and shapes, with a focus on creative expression.
  • Display pupils’ artwork and completed projects in the classroom, and arrange regular excursions that expose them to new environments and experiences.
  • Observe children’s behaviour, support their self-confidence and social values, guide those with learning differences or behavioural challenges, and track progress for parent reports.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or Arts Education with an Art specialisation.
  • A minimum of a B minus grade in O-level examinations.
  • Current registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
  • One to two years of classroom teaching experience, at minimum.
  • Familiarity with the new Competency Based Education approach.
  • Experience teaching a second subject would count in a candidate’s favour.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools in day-to-day school tasks.
