Role Overview
As Accountant, you will manage day-to-day accounting for a beverage distribution business, from ledger maintenance and reconciliations to monthly reporting and statutory filings. A key part of the role is connecting financial records with what is happening across sales, procurement and the warehouse, so the business can understand margins, account for stock accurately and address losses or cash-flow issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain general ledger and subsidiary accounts, and prepare monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash-flow reports.
- Track revenue, cost of sales and cash flow; prepare budgets, forecasts, year-end schedules and audit documentation.
- Manage inventory accounting, including stock valuations, cost-of-goods-sold calculations and gross-margin analysis across sales channels.
- Coordinate physical stock counts, investigate variances, and reconcile warehouse movement records and inventory sub-ledgers with the general ledger.
- Complete regular bank, customer, supplier and ledger reconciliations; issue customer invoices, monitor aged debt and follow up on overdue accounts.
- Verify supplier invoices against purchase orders and delivery notes before processing payments, and handle casual-worker wage payments.
- Calculate payroll and prepare, file and remit VAT, PAYE, NSSF and SHIF obligations through the relevant official portals.
- Maintain fixed-asset records, support internal and external audits, supervise junior accounting staff, and strengthen controls and cost management processes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated accounting experience; experience in FMCG, beverage distribution, retail or wholesale trading is strongly preferred.
- CPA, ACCA or an equivalent professional qualification is preferred.
- Practical experience with accounting software or ERP systems such as QuickBooks, Sage or Zoho.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence preparing reconciliations, financial reports and inventory analyses.
- Sound knowledge of inventory control, margin calculations, statutory accounting and variance investigation.
- Strong attention to detail, professional integrity and the ability to guide junior accounting staff.
- Fluent English and availability for full-time, on-site work in Nairobi, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
