Role Overview
This role sits at the centre of the finance function, handling the daily recording, reconciling and reporting work that keeps the books accurate and the business compliant. The person in this seat moves between the ledgers, the payment run and the statutory portals, making sure every shilling in and out is captured correctly, backed by proper documentation, and reflected consistently across the accounting system and the relevant tax platforms. Because the position touches both internal reporting and external obligations, getting it right determines how quickly the company closes its books, how reliably staff and suppliers are paid, and whether the business stays on the right side of Kenyan statutory authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture day-to-day financial transactions into the accounting system, attach the supporting documents behind each entry, and keep the records organised and easy to trace during review or audit.
- Prepare routine journals and reconciliations, including entries for transactions between related companies, and follow up on any differences until they are explained and cleared.
- Process supplier bills and payments: confirm that approvals and documentation are in place before anything is paid, run payment batches, and keep payment records complete and current.
- Handle queries from vendors on invoices, payment status and disputed amounts, and resolve outstanding issues with the relevant internal teams.
- Support the monthly cash flow plan and payment schedule, track spend against budget, and flag variances or adjustments that need attention.
- Prepare payroll inputs and reconcile statutory deductions, then prepare, file and pay monthly obligations such as PAYE, SHIF, NSSF, VAT, HELB and WHT, matching each payment back to the accounting records.
- Reconcile bank accounts, accounts payable and receivable balances, intercompany accounts, and sales and tax records across eTIMS, the accounting system and iTax, escalating discrepancies promptly.
- Work with the Commercial team on customer invoicing and balance tracking, follow up on overdue amounts, and supply finance information that supports collection efforts.
- Assemble schedules and supporting documents for internal and external audits, assist with grant-related financial management and reporting, and keep the company asset register updated through regular verification and reconciliation.
- Take on additional finance tasks as directed by the Finance team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- CPA Finalist is mandatory; ACCA qualification is also acceptable, and holding CPA (K) is a distinct advantage.
- Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) or a related field.
- Prior experience in audit is mandatory.
- Strong computer literacy with hands-on working knowledge of QuickBooks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the confidence to raise questions and seek clarification rather than guess.
- Proven ability to juggle several tasks at once without losing accuracy or attention to detail.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, and a track record of maintaining clean, well-documented financial records.
- Able to work independently on assigned tasks while contributing effectively within a team.
- High integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
- Takes ownership of work and follows it through to completion; curious, willing to learn, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, changing environment.
