Role Overview
This is a hands-on accounting seat for someone who wants to own the numbers from the first posting through to the final statutory filing. Based on-site along Ngong Road, you will keep the day-to-day books current, raise customer invoices through eTIMS, reconcile bank and ledger balances, and get the company's tax returns onto iTax before each deadline. Management depends on this position for reliable monthly figures and for keeping the business fully compliant with KRA, so accuracy in this seat has a direct bearing on how smoothly the company can trade and plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture daily transactions across the cash book, sales, supplier bills and petty cash, attaching the supporting documents to each entry.
- Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries, and keep account schedules and month-end adjustments ready for review.
- Reconcile bank, cash, customer and vendor accounts each month and investigate any differences until they are cleared.
- Raise customer invoices and transmit sales transactions through eTIMS so every sale meets KRA's electronic invoicing requirements.
- Check incoming vendor invoices and their eTIMS validation receipts before any payment is approved.
- Prepare and file VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, NSSF, SHIF and Housing Levy returns on iTax within the statutory deadlines, keeping the supporting schedules audit-ready.
- Compile the monthly reporting pack — trial balance, expenditure schedules, variance notes and a short financial summary for management.
- Run AR and AP ageing, follow up on overdue customer balances, flag supplier payments falling due, and enforce petty cash limits and the payment approval workflow.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, commerce or a closely related field.
- CPA Part IV or above.
- At least 2 years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience; exposure to FMCG, retail or fast-moving distribution operations is an advantage.
- Practical use of accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Tally, SAP or a comparable ERP.
- Working familiarity with KRA iTax and eTIMS, covering invoicing, validation and return submission.
- Solid grasp of statutory payroll deductions and the schedules that support them.
- Strong Excel skills — formulas, pivot tables and reconciliation workbooks.
- High integrity, close attention to detail, an analytical approach, and the discipline to hit monthly reporting cut-offs.
What We Offer
- Monthly gross salary of KSh 35,000.
- Full-time, on-site position based on Ngong Road, Nairobi.
- A broad remit spanning bookkeeping through to statutory filing, giving you practical depth across eTIMS and iTax rather than a narrow slice of the ledger.
