Job Description

Role Overview

You will take ownership of the broadband access network's technical direction, making sure it stays robust, expandable, and ready for growing customer demand. Day to day, this means turning business needs into practical network designs, planning capacity for the future, and guiding teams through deployments and upgrades. Your work directly protects service quality for every subscriber on the xPON/FTTx platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain capacity plans and demand forecasts for the xPON/FTTx network, aligning them with growth targets and new service launches.
  • Produce detailed access network designs, including specifications, engineering documentation, and Bills of Quantities, ready for implementation teams to execute.
  • Work alongside Systems and OSS/BSS colleagues to make sure OLTs, BNG/BRAS, and ACS platforms integrate cleanly, enabling smooth service provisioning and authentication.
  • Own the xPON/FTTx technology roadmap, coordinating hardware and software refreshes, migrations, and lifecycle upgrades without disrupting live services.
  • Calculate OLT uplink requirements and align end-to-end readiness with IP, Transmission, and Operations teams so new capacity lands on time.
  • Support field teams during commissioning, integration, and acceptance testing, verifying that installations meet design standards and project requirements.
  • Track network performance and capacity utilisation, identify bottlenecks, and drive improvements that protect availability and service quality.
  • Investigate complex faults related to capacity, interoperability, and service delivery, performing root cause analysis and documenting resolutions.
  • Plan and assess Proof of Concepts and technology trials, feeding results back into network evolution decisions.
  • Join site visits to validate infrastructure quality, implement approved action plans, and support technical investigations when needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Hold a Fiber Optic Network Design Certification; Project Management certification is a plus.
  • CCNA or CCNP certification, demonstrating solid networking fundamentals.
  • At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience designing and supporting xPON/FTTx networks.
  • Practical familiarity with OLT/ONT platforms, access network technologies, and broadband service delivery processes.
  • Proven experience working on telecom infrastructure projects and in multi-vendor environments.
