Job Description
Role Overview
This position serves as the first point of contact for employees who need help with technology, while also handling the behind-the-scenes administration that keeps computers, networks, accounts and business applications usable. The person in this role resolves common technical problems, maintains secure and well-documented systems, and works with colleagues to reduce repeat issues so staff can stay productive. It suits someone early in their IT career who enjoys both hands-on troubleshooting and structured operational work.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the initial support contact for employees, gathering details on hardware, software, connectivity and access problems; resolve issues within scope and route more complex incidents to the appropriate technical owner.
- Administer the daily operation of workstations, network components, user accounts and cloud productivity platforms such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, helping maintain consistent service availability.
- Keep IT inventory records current, including equipment registers, assignments and status, and assist with configuring, preparing and deploying devices for staff.
- Coordinate user lifecycle tasks: set up new joiners, remove or adjust access during departures or role changes, and ensure permissions align with job needs.
- Apply routine cybersecurity and data-protection measures, including updates, antivirus tools, backup checks and access reviews, and follow organisational policies for handling sensitive information.
- Monitor system health and service queues, log incidents and requests, and maintain documentation for recurring fixes, known errors and standard procedures.
- Produce basic IT activity reports and propose practical improvements that increase reliability, simplify support work or help users get more from available tools.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE mean grade of B+ or higher is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
- One to three years of relevant experience in IT support or systems administration; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.
- Foundational knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, business applications, networking concepts and common troubleshooting methods.
- Ability to diagnose problems logically, explain technical topics clearly to non-technical colleagues, and communicate progress on open issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving approach, with careful attention to detail when managing accounts, assets and access rights.
- Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team, manage competing requests, and learn new tools or procedures as they arise.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace administration, user access management, antivirus and update practices, and basic backup or monitoring routines would be beneficial.
- Interest in growing within an IT operations environment and contributing to a culture of reliable, secure technology use.
