Job Description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for delivering both theoretical and hands-on instruction to trainees pursuing technical and vocational courses. The role involves designing structured learning experiences, maintaining accurate academic records, and ensuring that training environments are safe, well-equipped, and conducive to skill development. As a key contributor to the institution’s technical programs, the trainer will support students in building industry-relevant competencies while upholding professional standards of discipline and academic rigor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive schemes of work, lesson plans, and detailed lesson notes aligned with the approved curriculum and institutional guidelines.
  • Deliver engaging theoretical instruction and practical demonstrations within the assigned trade area, adapting teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Prepare and organize teaching and learning materials, ensuring they are current, relevant, and available for each session.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date trainee records, including attendance, progress, assessment results, and other academic documentation.
  • Conduct regular trainee assessments using varied evaluation techniques, and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Ensure proper care, maintenance, and secure storage of workshop tools, equipment, and training resources, reporting any defects or safety hazards promptly.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise co-curricular activities that enrich the trainees’ overall learning experience and personal development.
  • Actively uphold trainee discipline, offering guidance and counseling support as needed to foster a respectful and motivated learning environment.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma certificate in one of the following trades from a recognized institution: electrical engineering, automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, clothing, fashion and design, textile technology, food and beverage, refrigeration and air-conditioning, building and construction, hairdressing and beauty therapy, instrument and controls engineering, civil engineering, computer studies, ICT, or maritime transport and logistics.
  • A minimum of three years of practical, hands-on experience in the relevant trade area.
  • Postgraduate diploma or pedagogical training from KSTVET (formerly KTTC) is an added advantage.
  • A certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution is required.
  • Strong communication and instructional skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage workshop spaces, maintain equipment, and enforce safety standards.
