Voter Educator

Role Overview

The Voter Educator works on the ground in the Ward holding a by-election, helping residents understand the electoral process and take part in it. Reporting to the Constituency Returning Officer, the role involves moving through community spaces to share voter education materials, coordinate with local leaders, and track how well the public understands the by-election. This frontline position matters because it connects IEBC, civil society, and residents while identifying information gaps and participation barriers within the ward.

Key Responsibilities

• Distribute voter education materials in schools, places of worship, health facilities, markets, community centres, farms, business premises, and other local gathering points.
• Work with local stakeholders, relevant authorities, and community leaders to organise and support voter education activities.
• Facilitate voter education sessions across the County Assembly Ward.
• Serve as the link between the IEBC Returning Officer, civil society organisations, community-based organisations, and the community.
• Assess public understanding of issues related to the by-election taking place in the ward.
• Monitor and evaluate the work of voter education providers operating in the ward.
• Prepare and submit weekly activity reports to the supervisor.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Must currently reside in the Ward where the by-election is being held.
• Ability to communicate fluently in the primary language spoken by residents of the electoral area.
• A diploma or higher qualification in social sciences, project management, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in voter education, community mobilisation, or social work within the relevant by-election electoral unit.
• Demonstrated maturity, community respect, and political neutrality, with a strong grasp of civil society organisations, ward geography, and the socio-cultural, economic, and political dynamics of the area.
• Evidence of having successfully delivered voter education or informal training alongside established social networks in the electoral unit.
