Job Description

Role Overview

This role leads a technical workshop team responsible for keeping a mixed fleet of heavy equipment, agricultural machinery, and support vehicles operational. Day-to-day, you will oversee maintenance schedules, delegate repair tasks, manage parts inventory, and ensure workshop safety. Your decisions directly affect fleet uptime and operational efficiency, making this position critical to the organisation’s core field work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct daily workshop activities, including job allocation, workflow sequencing, and quality control on all repairs and servicing.
  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance programmes across tractors, generators, irrigation systems, and other heavy equipment to minimise downtime.
  • Manage the workshop budget, spare parts procurement, and supplier relationships to control costs without compromising reliability.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of technicians and fitters, setting performance targets and conducting regular reviews.
  • Inspect incoming breakdowns and schedule urgent repairs, balancing reactive demands with planned maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of fleet condition, service history, and compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with field operations managers to align workshop capacity with seasonal or project-driven equipment demands.
  • Identify recurring mechanical issues and recommend upgrades, retrofits, or training to improve long-term fleet reliability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Agricultural, or Automotive Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in workshop, fleet, or maintenance management.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership capacity, directing technicians and coordinating workloads.
  • Proven ability to manage preventive maintenance schedules and workshop operations from job cards to final inspection.
  • Familiarity with agricultural machinery (tractors, harvesters), irrigation systems, generators, and heavy equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems common in industrial or agricultural settings.
  • Competence with maintenance management software and basic financial reporting for parts and labour costs.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a well-equipped workshop in a sector that depends on reliable equipment. You will work with a dedicated technical team and have the autonomy to shape maintenance processes. The role offers the challenge of managing diverse machinery and the stability of a full-time, leadership position within a growing operation.
