We are looking for a technically proficient Waste Water Treatment Supervisor to lead the operations of our treatment facility in Rongai. In this capacity, you will be responsible for the end-to-end integrity of the treatment process, from influent screening to sludge management. Your primary objective is to ensure that all biological, chemical, and mechanical systems function at peak efficiency while remaining in total compliance with environmental discharge regulations. We seek a leader who can troubleshoot complex process upsets, optimize chemical dosing, and mentor a technical team to maintain a safe, high-performance work environment.

Functional Responsibilities

Process Optimization & Technical Oversight

  • Supervise the full cycle of wastewater treatment, including aeration, sedimentation, filtration, and sludge recycling.

  • Monitor critical parameters such as BOD, COD, pH, and TSS, making real-time adjustments to maintain effluent quality.

  • Analyze laboratory results and operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, or potential process failures.

  • Implement chemical dosing and aeration adjustments to reduce energy consumption and improve treatment outcomes.

  • Lead troubleshooting efforts during process upsets to restore normal operations with minimal downtime.

Compliance, Safety & Environmental Governance

  • Ensure the facility meets all national and local environmental discharge standards and regulatory mandates.

  • Prepare comprehensive compliance reports and facilitate inspections or audits by regulatory authorities.

  • Enforce strict Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, particularly regarding the handling and storage of hazardous chemicals.

  • Conduct regular risk assessments and safety briefings to ensure a zero-accident workspace.

  • Oversee the environmentally sound disposal of sludge and other treatment by-products.

Team Management & Asset Integrity

  • Coordinate the daily activities of plant operators and technicians, managing shift schedules and performance metrics.

  • Direct preventive maintenance programs for pumps, blowers, and valves to extend equipment life and prevent breakdowns.

  • Maintain accurate operational logs, chemical inventory records, and weekly performance reports for management review.

  • Liaise with laboratory personnel and external consultants to ensure accurate sampling and system upgrades.

Professional Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Academic Background: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proven Tenure: Minimum of 3 years of experience specifically in wastewater or sewage treatment operations.

  • Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience supervising biological, chemical, and physical treatment systems.

Critical Skill Set

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental laws and discharge compliance requirements.

  • Leadership: Strong ability to supervise, train, and discipline a technical workforce.

  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in interpreting technical data and translating it into operational improvements.

  • Operational Drive: Self-motivated with the ability to manage complex assets and meet strict performance targets.

Value Proposition

  • Competitive Salary: Monthly compensation ranging between Kshs. 35,000 and 40,000.

  • Technical Impact: Manage a critical environmental infrastructure project in a growing region.

  • Leadership Growth: Take full ownership of a plant’s performance, safety culture, and regulatory standing.
