Waiters & Bartenders — Five Positions Available
Role Overview
This is a hands-on front-of-house job in a busy hospitality venue in Kitui-Mutomo, where you will alternate between looking after seated diners and working the bar counter. You are the person guests deal with most, so your speed, accuracy and warmth shape how the whole establishment is judged. Success in the role means orders reach the kitchen and bar correctly, drinks and plates arrive looking their best, bills balance at the end of a shift, and the floor and counter stay clean throughout.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet guests as they arrive, seat them comfortably, and stay attentive to their needs from the first order through to departure.
- Talk customers through the menu and drinks list, suggest options when asked, and write down orders precisely so nothing is misread by the kitchen or bar.
- Carry food and drinks to tables promptly, keeping presentation standards and food-safety rules intact from the pass to the guest.
- Mix and pour hot, cold, alcoholic and soft drinks to the house recipes, and keep the bar counter stocked, wiped down and hygienic at all times.
- Watch stock levels on bottles, draught lines and other bar supplies, and flag anything running low to your supervisor before it becomes a problem.
- Add up guest orders correctly, present the bill, and take payment in cash, M-Pesa or other mobile money, returning the right change every time.
- Reconcile your till against the day's sales, report any shortfalls or discrepancies, and follow the venue's cash-handling procedure.
- Clear and reset tables, sanitise service stations, and coordinate with cooks, counter staff and floor supervisors so service keeps moving during peak hours.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Previous work as a waiter, waitress, bartender or similar service-floor role in a restaurant, hotel, bar or lounge is a clear advantage; candidates with strong aptitude and no formal experience may still be considered.
- Confident spoken communication and a courteous, patient manner with all kinds of customers.
- Good listening skills and the ability to remember and repeat back multi-item orders accurately.
- Basic numeracy for totalling bills, handling cash and mobile money payments, and balancing a till.
- Awareness of food hygiene, safe drink handling and general cleanliness standards.
- Physical stamina and composure when the venue is full and several tables need attention at once.
- Reliability and punctuality, with honesty in handling money and stock.
- Availability for shift work across evenings, weekends and public holidays.
- Neat personal grooming and willingness to follow the venue's uniform and conduct rules.
What We Offer / Why Join
- Monthly pay of KSh 10,000.
- Complimentary housing provided, removing the cost and stress of finding your own accommodation locally.
