Job Description

Role Overview

This is a front-of-store position at a busy retail outlet in Ndenderu, Limuru, where you will be the last person a shopper deals with before leaving — so speed, accuracy, and courtesy all matter equally. Day to day you will run a point-of-sale till, take payment across cash, mobile money, cards and vouchers, keep the checkout lane moving during rush periods, and close out your own drawer with a clean, verifiable reconciliation at the end of each shift. Because every shilling that passes through the lane is your responsibility, the employer relies on this role to protect daily revenue, catch pricing errors before they reach the receipt, and leave customers with a reason to come back.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ring up customer purchases on the POS terminal quickly and correctly, confirming item prices and quantities as you go.
  • Take and validate payment by cash, mobile money, bank card or approved vouchers, and hand over an official receipt for every sale.
  • Count the opening float, track transactions across the shift, and report any drawer shortage or surplus to the supervisor without delay.
  • Check barcode tags and shelf pricing against what the system shows before finalising a sale, flagging mismatches rather than guessing.
  • Greet shoppers, answer questions about prices, promotions and where items are shelved, and pack purchases neatly and safely.
  • Direct customers into the shortest available lane during peak hours so queues keep flowing and waiting times stay low.
  • Keep the till point, counter surface and impulse display racks clean, tidy and replenished throughout the shift.
  • Complete end-of-day reconciliation and formal cash handover, and follow store rules exactly on refunds, voids, discounts and staff purchases.
  • Report damaged packaging, expired stock or faulty barcode labels to the store manager for action.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • KCSE certificate is required; a diploma in business management or a related discipline is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in a supermarket, minimart, retail store or high-volume fast-food outlet — this is an entry- to mid-level role and prior retail exposure is expected.
  • Practical familiarity with POS terminals, cash registers and electronic barcode scanners.
  • Strong mental arithmetic and fast, accurate cash-counting ability, with the attention to detail needed to spot a discrepancy before it becomes a problem.
  • A polite, composed manner and clear communication, including the ability to stay calm when a customer is unhappy.
  • Reliable, honest and physically able to stay on your feet through long shifts and busy trading hours.
  • Comfortable handling confidential revenue records and working to strict financial accuracy standards.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Monthly remuneration of KSh 15,000.
  • Full-time, shift-based retail employment at a fixed store location in Ndenderu, Limuru, Kenya.
  • A defined checkout role with clear procedures around cash handling, voids and reconciliation, so expectations are set from day one.
