Role Overview

This volunteer position sits within the resource mobilisation team at the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK), supporting the organisation to secure funding for its strategic programmes. Day-to-day work involves scanning funding landscapes, drafting proposals and concept notes, maintaining donor records, and collaborating with staff to meet reporting deadlines. Your contributions will directly strengthen AMWIK’s financial sustainability and its ongoing work to support and amplify women in Kenya’s media sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and map new funding opportunities, grant calls, and corporate partnership prospects that align with AMWIK’s strategic pillars.
• Draft compelling grant narratives, concept notes, and expressions of interest for submission to donors and foundations.
• Maintain and update the donor database, ensuring contact details, communication histories, and funding records are accurate and current.
• Track reporting timelines for active grants and coordinate with relevant teams to ensure submissions are completed on schedule.
• Conduct research on potential funders, including development finance institutions, private foundations, and corporate social responsibility programmes.
• Support internal brainstorming sessions focused on innovative resource mobilisation strategies and long-term fundraising plans.
• Prepare concise briefs and summaries on donor trends and funding gaps to inform decision-making.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A background in Communications, Project Management, Development Studies, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to assess funding opportunities critically and match them to organisational priorities.
• Excellent writing skills, including experience or demonstrated interest in drafting proposals, reports, or persuasive narratives.
• Familiarity with finance and development sectors is considered an added advantage.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to deliver quality work under tight deadlines.
• Availability to commit 2–3 days per week at AMWIK’s Nairobi office.
