Role Overview
This role keeps air terminal and flight line operations moving by operating government vehicles and specialized ground equipment to transport personnel, cargo, mail, and baggage across the airfield. You will work in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment where careful driving, clear communication, and attention to vehicle condition directly support mission success. Expect to shift between driving, loading, and inspection tasks as operational needs change throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive government vehicles and ground support equipment to move passengers, cargo, baggage, mail, and equipment between terminals, aircraft parking areas, and staging locations.
- Complete pre-operational, during-operation, and post-operational checks to confirm every vehicle is safe and ready for airfield use.
- Follow airfield driving rules, traffic regulations, and flight line safety procedures at all times, including when working near aircraft and moving equipment.
- Maintain continuous awareness of surrounding hazards and adjust driving or positioning to avoid incidents on busy flight lines.
- Support cargo and baggage handlers with loading, securing, unloading, and relocating shipments as directed.
- Keep assigned vehicles clean, fueled, and operationally sound, promptly reporting any defects, maintenance needs, accidents, or safety concerns.
- Document vehicle inspections, operating logs, and transportation records accurately and keep them current.
- Respond quickly to changing priorities and schedules, and provide professional, courteous service to passengers, aircrews, and mission partners.
Requirements & Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One to three years of experience operating vehicles in transportation, logistics, air terminal, or aviation support settings.
- Working knowledge of vehicle operation, traffic laws, and airfield driving procedures.
- Ability to drive safely around aircraft and in high-traffic operational environments.
- Valid passport with at least one year of remaining validity at the time of hire, and willingness to travel internationally.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas as required by the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Must meet contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the full deployment period.
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials or authorization.
- Proficiency in reading, speaking, and comprehending English to perform contract duties and follow installation emergency procedures.
Preferred:
- Prior work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
- A valid driver's license to legally operate motor vehicles.
- Experience supporting U.S. military, government, or aviation transportation operations.
- Experience operating specialized ground support equipment.
