Role Overview

We are seeking a high-energy, commercially aggressive Van Salesman (VSM) to anchor our territory distribution network and accelerate route-to-market volumes. Your primary objective is to maximize product availability across retail channels by driving daily sales fulfillment, optimizing delivery schedules, and aggressively onboarding new merchant outlets. This position balances heavy-duty field logistics with active consultative selling; you will guide territory operations from morning stock loading and vehicle safety checks through to route account growth and daily revenue reconciliation. The role demands an energetic, target-oriented driver who possesses deep knowledge of traditional FMCG trade lanes and can transform product visibility into immediate volume growth.

Areas of Accountability

Route Development & Account Recruitment

  • Drive consistent fulfillment across assigned geographic trade routes, hitting daily, weekly, and monthly sales volume quotas.
  • Prospect, evaluate, and recruit fresh retail outlets, wholesale kiosks, and mini-supermarkets to widen brand territory footprint.
  • Present and position secondary product lines, seasonal stock allocations, and promotional discount frameworks to new and active buyers.
  • Conduct continuous evaluations of competitor field price changes, trade displays, and stock drops to provide immediate boardroom feedback.

Order Fulfillment & Logistics Management

  • Coordinate the safe transport and on-time drop-off of bulk commercial stock across the assigned multi-regional route mapping.
  • Cross-check physical delivery counts precisely against digital invoices, collection notes, and signed customer receipts to avoid errors.
  • Manage product returns and expiry cycles at the shop floor level according to established corporate inventory recovery procedures.
  • Arrange strategic point-of-purchase product displays on merchant shelves to optimize brand eye-level visibility and draw consumer interest.

Asset Security & Cash Reconciliation

  • Maintain absolute financial accountability for all bulk product configurations loaded onto the delivery van at the start of each run.
  • Collect and secure route payments under strict compliance with internal credit rules, executing faultless daily financial settlements.
  • Supervise the mechanical upkeep, clean appearance, and roadworthiness of the assigned company vehicle, filing maintenance flags immediately.
  • Adhere fully to all regional transit rules, road safety directives, and national traffic laws across all operating territories.

Administrative Reporting & Compliance

  • Document accurate, real-time records covering daily merchant visits, completed sales volumes, cash balances, and route fuel usage.
  • Compile and deliver structured weekly performance summaries and territory health scorecards to the sales supervisor.
  • Cultivate and insulate long-term commercial relationships with retail owners to encourage consistent repeat business.

Skills & Experience Required

Minimum Entry Criteria

  • Academic Foundation: Diploma or Certificate in Sales & Marketing, Business Administration, or a matching field from a recognized institution.
  • Industry Experience: Minimum of 3 years of active, verifiable performance operating as a Van Salesman inside a busy FMCG distribution setup.
  • Licensing Compliance: Possession of a valid, clean Kenyan driving license accompanied by a spotless long-distance driving record.
  • Methodology Mastery: Deep familiarity with modern route mapping, retail inventory reconciliation, and B2B volume negotiation tactics.
