Role Overview
The Finance & Procurement Manager will lead financial planning and day-to-day accounting for a Nairobi law firm, advising the Managing Partner on cash flow, expenditure and profitability. The role also oversees legal fee billing and collections, statutory compliance, purchasing and the teams responsible for these functions, helping the firm protect its resources and maintain reliable financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise the Managing Partner on financial planning, cash-flow forecasts, cost controls and opportunities to improve profitability.
- Produce daily cash updates, weekly billing and debtor reports, and monthly management accounts.
- Oversee the general ledger, payables, receivables, payroll, petty cash, and bank and supplier reconciliations.
- Monitor matter-level costs, work in progress, billable performance, fee notes, disbursements, retainers and client trust balances.
- Lead client collection activity, maintain aged-debtor records and follow up on agreed payment commitments.
- Manage procurement from requisition review and supplier due diligence through quotation evaluation, negotiation and contract administration.
- Maintain supplier records and asset registers, review vendor performance, and coordinate facilities agreements and service-level arrangements.
- Strengthen financial controls, oversee timely tax payments and regulatory filings, liaise with auditors and relevant authorities, and guide finance, billing and procurement staff.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least six years of progressive experience in financial accounting, including a minimum of three years in a supervisory or management position.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline, with at least Second-Class Honours, Upper Division.
- Full CPA(K), ACCA or an equivalent recognised accounting qualification.
- KCSE mean grade of B plain or equivalent.
- Experience in a law firm, professional services partnership or another billable-services environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of legal practice accounting, fee and billable-hours tracking, applicable tax requirements and ERP accounting systems.
- Demonstrated capability in financial analysis, supplier negotiations, debtor recovery and team leadership, with sound judgement and high ethical standards.
- Based in Nairobi and able to work full-time on site.
