Role Overview
This is a frontline counter role in a Nyeri spare parts shop that keeps Isuzu trucks and Toyota vehicles moving for private motorists, workshops, and transport operators. Each day you will talk with customers to work out the exact component they need, confirm it fits their vehicle, pull it from the racks, and complete the sale on the till. Getting the right part into a customer's hands on the first visit is what decides whether the shop earns repeat business, so your product knowledge and attention to detail sit at the centre of the operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend to walk-in buyers, account customers, and phone enquiries, establishing whether the request relates to an Isuzu truck, a Toyota passenger car, or a Toyota commercial unit before quoting.
- Confirm part numbers against chassis details, model year, engine code, and OEM references using electronic catalogues so every component supplied is the correct fitment.
- Raise quotations, sales orders, invoices, and cash receipts in the point-of-sale system, and keep payment records reconciled at the close of trade.
- Recommend suitable genuine alternatives, related wear items, and useful add-on consumables that genuinely help the customer complete the repair.
- Check incoming deliveries against supplier notes and purchase orders, then report shortages, damage, or incorrect items for resolution.
- Bin, label, and arrange stock so fast-moving lines stay within easy reach and the counter and display areas remain tidy and professional.
- Carry out periodic stock counts, compare physical quantities with system records, investigate discrepancies, and flag slow-moving or obsolete lines to management.
- Stay in regular contact with local garages, mechanics, fleet operators, and repeat buyers, and follow up on pending special orders and open enquiries.
Requirements and Qualifications
- KCSE certificate or equivalent; a certificate or diploma in automotive engineering, motor vehicle technology, or parts management is a distinct advantage.
- At least two years of practical experience in an automotive spare parts shop, dealership, garage stores, or auto supply business.
- Working knowledge of Isuzu truck and Toyota vehicle parts, including the ability to recognise common engine assemblies, suspension components, and routine wear-and-tear items.
- Confidence using electronic parts catalogues, chassis or VIN lookup tools, and computerised point-of-sale and stock management systems, along with basic record-keeping ability.
- A verification-first mindset: checking that a part is right before invoicing rather than dealing with returns afterwards.
- Strong customer handling skills, including the patience to interpret a vague description of a fault and the right questions to steer a buyer to the correct item.
- Honest, careful handling of cash, stock, and paperwork, with the discipline to keep records accurate during busy trading hours.
- Availability for full-time work in a retail shop environment in Nyeri.
