Job Description

Role Overview

This position places you at the heart of a newly opened aparthotel along Nairobi’s Northern Bypass, where you will build and run the entire finance function from the ground up. Your days will be split between hands-on accounting work—revenue reconciliations, supplier payments, cash controls—and strategic oversight, ensuring the property’s financial systems are accurate, compliant, and ready to support growth. You will be the trusted finance partner to the management team, translating daily operational data into clear reports that guide decisions on pricing, procurement, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present daily revenue and occupancy summaries, weekly cash flow statements, and monthly management accounts with full P&L, balance sheet, and variance analysis.
  • Own all treasury activities, including banking reconciliations, petty cash management, and monitoring of accounts receivable to drive timely collections.
  • Track food and beverage profitability by analyzing ingredient costs, beverage margins, and operational spending, then recommend corrective actions when variances appear.
  • Ensure all statutory obligations—VAT, PAYE, corporate tax—are filed and paid on schedule, while maintaining IFRS-compliant records and staying alert to regulatory changes.
  • Coordinate internal and external audit processes, supervise monthly stock takes, and reconcile inventory counts against system records.
  • Review procurement workflows and purchasing controls to prevent leakage and maintain accurate documentation for every transaction.
  • Supervise, train, and review the work of the finance support team, including the purchasing officer, storekeeper, cost controller, and payables accountant.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, recommending system updates and internal control enhancements as the property scales.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • CPA(K) finalist or fully qualified CPA(K); ACCA certification is a strong plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years specifically within the hospitality industry.
  • Proven track record in hotel financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
  • Hands-on proficiency with hotel Property Management Systems (PMS), accounting software, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Solid understanding of Kenyan tax regulations and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing inventory, food and beverage costing, and procurement controls in a hotel or restaurant environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including supervising and developing junior finance staff.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a rare chance to define financial best practices for a brand-new aparthotel rather than inheriting an existing system. You will have immediate ownership of the finance function, visible impact on the property’s profitability, and the professional satisfaction of building controls from the start. The role is ideal for a hands-on hospitality accountant who enjoys both detailed daily work and the bigger picture of business growth.
