Role Overview

This Tutorial Fellow position offers an early-career academic the chance to grow within a university environment that values rigorous teaching and meaningful research. Day to day, the role involves delivering lectures and practical sessions, guiding students through their studies, and contributing to the intellectual life of the department through curriculum support and scholarly activity. The work matters because it directly shapes the quality of undergraduate learning while building a foundation for the Fellow's own doctoral research and long-term academic career.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, tutorials, laboratory demonstrations, practical sessions, and fieldwork as assigned by the Head of Department, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and appropriate to the students' level.
• Assist in designing and updating course units and academic programmes, including developing teaching materials, syllabi, and assessment tools that meet current academic standards.
• Review and improve existing course content and evaluation methods in response to student feedback, departmental needs, and developments in the discipline.
• Work alongside senior colleagues on curriculum reviews, programme enhancements, and broader teaching-and-learning initiatives.
• Conduct independent research in the relevant field, produce scholarly publications, and prepare competitive grant proposals for funding.
• Present research findings at academic conferences, seminars, and workshops, and share results through reputable journals and other scholarly platforms.
• Participate in consultancy projects and other academic income-generating activities that align with departmental goals.
• Mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students by offering academic advice, career guidance, and professional support, while also assisting junior staff where needed.
• Contribute to departmental, faculty, and university committees and events, and carry out other official duties as directed by the Head of Department.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Registration for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or an equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field, with clear evidence of satisfactory progress toward completion.
• A Master's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised, accredited university.
• A Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised, accredited university.
• At least three years of relevant work experience after completing the postgraduate qualification.
• Demonstrated experience in university-level teaching and research, including the delivery of lectures or tutorials and active participation in research activities.
• Current registration with the relevant professional body, or eligibility to register with such a body where applicable.
