Role Overview
This academic position sits within a university Film and Animation department, combining teaching, curriculum design, and active research. You will shape how students learn by developing course materials, leading lectures and practical sessions, and continuously refreshing content to reflect industry and scholarly developments. Beyond the classroom, you will contribute to the department's research profile through publications, conference presentations, and grant-seeking, while also guiding students and junior colleagues in their academic and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures, seminars, and practical workshops across the film and animation curriculum as assigned by the Head of Department.
- Design, develop, and plan new programmes of study, including building course structures for emerging subject areas at different degree levels.
- Regularly review and update course content, teaching materials, and assessment methods to maintain academic quality and current industry relevance.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum changes, pedagogy improvements, and research-led teaching initiatives.
- Conduct original research in film and animation, publish findings in scholarly outlets, and prepare competitive grant proposals to secure research funding.
- Present work at national and international conferences and disseminate research outputs through other academic and professional channels.
- Seek and participate in consultancy projects that connect departmental expertise with external organisations and the creative industries.
- Provide mentorship, supervision, and career guidance to students and early-career staff, and undertake other academic duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral degree in Film and Animation, or current registration for one toward completion.
- A Master's degree and a Bachelor's degree in Film and Animation from accredited universities.
- At least three years of relevant post-qualification work experience in academia, research, or a closely related professional environment.
- Demonstrated experience teaching at university level, with a record of research output and scholarly engagement.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional body, where applicable to the field.
