Tutorial Fellow - Data Science

Role Overview

This role is centred on teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Data Science and Data Analytics, while also building the department’s research profile. Daily work involves preparing and delivering lectures, designing practical lab sessions, and assessing student progress, with continuous refinement of course materials to stay aligned with evolving industry practices. The position matters to the institution because it directly supports the production of skilled graduates and advances the university’s standing in applied data science research.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver lectures, tutorials, and laboratory practicals for Data Science courses across multiple academic levels.
• Design, develop, and revise programme content and teaching materials for both existing and newly introduced courses.
• Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum updates, programme reviews, and the creation of new specialisations.
• Conduct independent and collaborative research in data science; publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national or international conferences.
• Write and submit research grant proposals to secure external funding.
• Seek and participate in consultancy projects that link academic expertise with industry needs.
• Provide academic mentorship and career guidance to students, including supervision of projects, dissertations, and research activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Master of Science in Data Science, Data Science and Data Analytics, or a closely related field; a Bachelor of Science in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent discipline from a recognised university.
• Current enrolment in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral programme, with evidence of satisfactory progress.
• Registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body (where applicable).
• At least three years of post-qualification work experience.
• Demonstrated experience in university-level teaching and research, with a track record of delivering high-quality instruction.
