Role Overview
As a Team Leader at Biashara Logbook Loans, you will be responsible for guiding a team of loan officers through the full logbook lending cycle — from sourcing clients and verifying vehicle documents to monitoring repayments and managing arrears. Your days will blend field coaching, loan file reviews, performance tracking, and direct customer escalations. This role matters because the quality of your team’s decisions directly protects the loan book, keeps collateral secure, and determines whether the business grows profitably.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and motivate a team of logbook loan officers to achieve individual and branch-level origination targets.
- Oversee loan applications end to end, including client vetting, logbook authenticity checks, vehicle valuation coordination, and approval recommendations.
- Ensure all security documents — original logbooks, loan agreements, and insurance details — are properly executed, stored, and tracked.
- Monitor portfolio health daily by reviewing repayment schedules, flagging early warning signs, and driving collections or recovery actions on overdue accounts.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, call coaching, and side-by-side field visits to improve conversion rates and customer service.
- Enforce compliance with internal credit policies and applicable asset-backed lending or consumer protection regulations.
- Prepare and present weekly reports on pipeline activity, disbursements, arrears, and team productivity to branch or regional management.
- Handle escalated customer complaints and negotiate repayment plans or restructuring within approved limits.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in logbook lending, asset-backed lending, or secured consumer credit, including 1+ year supervising or leading a team.
- Strong practical knowledge of vehicle logbook verification, collateral perfection, and loan-to-value assessment.
- Proven ability to drive sales targets while simultaneously managing a collections portfolio.
- Familiarity with credit analysis, arrears management, and the regulatory environment for secured lending.
- Excellent coaching, communication, and conflict-resolution skills, with the confidence to lead from the field as well as the office.
- Diploma or degree in business, finance, banking, economics, or a related field.
- Comfortable using loan management systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools to track team and portfolio performance.
- High integrity, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to stay composed under pressure.
