Job Description

Role Overview

You will step into a vibrant teaching environment in Machakos, guiding secondary students through Music and Creative Arts alongside either Geography or Kiswahili. Day to day, you will plan and deliver lessons that blend theoretical knowledge with hands-on creative practice, assess learner progress, and prepare students for performances and exhibitions. This dual-subject role is central to the school's mission of producing well-rounded graduates who excel academically while discovering their artistic and cultural identities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging Music and Creative Arts lessons that align with the national curriculum and integrate practical activities such as singing, instrumental work, painting, drama, and craft.
  • Teach Geography or Kiswahili as the second teaching subject, ensuring consistent coverage of syllabus objectives and timely assessment of learner outcomes.
  • Develop differentiated learning materials that cater to mixed-ability classrooms and promote active participation, critical thinking, and creativity.
  • Administer and mark formative and summative assessments, maintain accurate learner records, and provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
  • Coach and mentor students for co-curricular events, including music festivals, drama competitions, art exhibitions, and academic contests.
  • Create a positive, disciplined, and inclusive classroom atmosphere where every learner feels safe and motivated to contribute.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers to organise interdisciplinary projects, school assemblies, and cultural days that showcase student talent.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school improvement initiatives as required by the institution.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Hold a Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Education with a specialisation in Music & Creative Arts combined with Geography or Kiswahili.
  • Have at least two years of verified teaching experience in a primary or secondary school setting, preferably handling both creative arts and the second teaching subject.
  • Be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and present a valid registration certificate.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills, clear verbal and written communication, and a learner-centred teaching approach.
  • Show genuine enthusiasm for nurturing students' academic growth as well as their participation in music, drama, art, and other co-curricular activities.
  • Display adaptability and willingness to support the broader life of the school, including clubs, committees, and community outreach events.
