Role Overview
This role focuses on day-to-day tax operations, centred on the Kenya Revenue Authority’s iTax system. You will be responsible for preparing and submitting VAT and income tax returns, reconciling tax accounts, and maintaining supporting documentation for audits. Your work ensures the organisation meets all statutory tax deadlines and stays compliant with evolving Kenyan tax legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Submit timely VAT returns via the KRA iTax portal, ensuring accuracy and full supporting documentation.
- Prepare and file corporate income tax returns in line with current Kenyan tax rules.
- Reconcile tax ledgers and resolve any discrepancies or queries related to tax accounts.
- Maintain a well‑organised archive of tax records, receipts, and correspondence for audit readiness.
- Support both internal and external audits by preparing requested schedules, reports, and documentation.
- Liaise directly with the Kenya Revenue Authority and other regulatory bodies on compliance matters and queries.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation, assess their impact, and advise management on necessary adjustments to processes.
- Assist with financial reporting and accounting duties as needed, including month‑end reconciliations and variance analysis.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of two years’ hands‑on experience in taxation and audit, with a focus on Kenyan tax compliance.
- Proven, day‑to‑day proficiency with the Kenya Revenue Authority’s iTax system for VAT and income tax filings.
- Solid understanding of Kenyan tax laws, including VAT and corporate income tax regulations.
- CPA Part II qualification (or active progress toward full CPA certification).
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v‑lookups, data validation) and familiarity with common accounting software.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple statutory deadlines independently while maintaining accuracy.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with high attention to detail.
- Prior experience in a busy accounting firm or corporate finance department is an advantage.
