Role Overview
You will join a busy hospital team as a Clinical Officer, assessing and treating patients who present with both acute and chronic conditions. Day to day, you will run consultations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe appropriate treatments, and support the nursing and support staff in delivering safe, timely care. Your work is essential to keeping patient flow steady, reducing avoidable admissions, and ensuring that people with non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma receive structured, continuous management rather than episodic crisis care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient consultations, including history-taking, physical examination, and clinical assessment for outpatient and inpatient cases.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for acute illnesses, minor injuries, and follow-up care, referring complex cases to senior medical staff when necessary.
- Manage the routine review and monitoring of patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including medication titration, lifestyle counselling, and complication screening.
- Carry out minor medical procedures within the scope of a Clinical Officer, including wound care, suturing, incision and drainage, and removal of foreign bodies.
- Order and interpret laboratory investigations and imaging results, communicating findings clearly to patients and colleagues.
- Maintain accurate, legible, and up-to-date patient records in both paper and electronic systems, ensuring completeness for audit and continuity of care.
- Provide emergency first response in resuscitation situations, using Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support skills until the patient is stabilised or transferred.
- Participate in health education sessions for patients and families, particularly around NCD prevention, medication adherence, and lifestyle modification.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine from a recognised institution.
- Registered with the Clinical Officers Council and in possession of a valid practising licence.
- At least one (1) year of post-internship experience in a public or private hospital setting.
- A minimum of one (1) year of hands-on experience working in a busy or high-volume health facility.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, hypertension, and chronic respiratory conditions.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Strong clinical reasoning, documentation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
